The Facts
01 — This is not “a hotel near Trakai”
Trakai is one of the easiest places in Lithuania to reduce to an errand: castle, kibinas, photograph, back to Vilnius. TonyResort gives the day a second act. You leave the bridge crowds, drive into Anupriškės pine forest, and suddenly the evening is lake, trees, dinner and a room rather than another forty-ish minutes of headlights.
I would not book it because it has four stars. I would book it because the geography is doing useful work: Trakai is close, Vilnius is close enough, but the place feels properly out of town. Comfort without turning nature into camping homework.
02 — The Tony G story is actually worth telling
The official story starts with Antanas Guoga — Tony G in poker — returning to Lithuania after spending his teenage years and early career in Australia and looking for a place to call home. Anupriškės was the place that stopped the search. The project grew from the idea of a home into a resort that could be shared with other people.
The name is not a mysterious wellness acronym: TonyResort comes from Tony G. The complex was designed by G. Natkevičius & Partners, and in 2011 it received a Lithuanian tourism award for a family-tourism idea. That backstory matters because the place makes more sense as a personal landscape that became a business than as a hotel dropped beside a lake by committee.
03 — How long should you give it?
Trakai → trout → sleep
Do the castle and lake properly, arrive in the afternoon, walk the forest/wetland paths, fish if conditions allow, eat and stay. This is the cleanest version.

Add a slow morning, Gilušis lake, sauna/hot tub or seasonal activities. The second day should contain less driving than the first.

Use it as a Vilnius/Trakai countryside base, not as a bunker. One city day, one Trakai day, one day where your biggest decision is whether lunch comes before the lake.

04 — Catch your dinner

This is the rare hotel activity that is not there merely to fill a brochure. TonyResort stocks a recreational trout pond, provides the equipment and bait, and the kitchen can prepare the fish you catch. That makes it particularly good for a first-timer who wants the story without buying a tackle box the size of a small wardrobe.
The official pages currently disagree
The dedicated trout-fishing page lists €39/kg. The broader leisure page lists €45/kg plus garnish from €5. I am not going to choose the cheaper number on your behalf. Call before treating either figure as the price.

05 — What it costs
Official room pages currently show standard doubles from €85, €89 or €99 depending on room position/view, with breakfast included. Trakai’s €2 per-person local accommodation tax is listed separately. Prices vary by season and weekday, so this is a planning signal, not a promise.

Worth the Detour
Let the route decide whether this is clever.
06 — What I’d skip
- Driving back to Vilnius after a long dinner because the hotel looked “too close to justify”. Close is the feature.
- Treating the trout pond as elite angling. It is a food-and-fun experience. If the fishing itself is the religion, go to Karpynė.
- Trying to do every activity. A resort is not a loyalty card that needs every box stamped.
- Assuming the website’s first price is the final bill. Room types, season, tax and the conflicting trout pages are exactly why the source links are here.
