Make arrival and dinner count.
Pick the base where the hotel itself can carry the evening. One walk, one serious meal, one spa block, one slow breakfast. Anything more becomes commuting with robes.
The best base is not the fanciest room. It is the place that makes the next 24–72 hours easier, tastier and less stupidly over-planned.
Open the full destination guide when the place — not just the hotel — is deciding the trip.

The compact one: mineral water, Nemunas loops, serious spa hotels and dinner without needing another drive.
Choose Birštonas →
The full resort weekend: spa, Aqua Park, Snow Arena, pine forest, culture and enough food choice to stay two or three nights.
Choose Druskininkai →
The Baltic version: sea air, pine walks, spa hotels and a proper dinner — strongest when the coast is part of the point.
Choose Palanga →These are bases, not accommodation listings: a good bed, a good dinner, a reason to stay put — and enough around them to fill one night, a weekend or three nights without luggage choreography.
Come for the country reset; stay because SIMBOLY and the resort make dinner part of the destination. Best with a car and enough time not to turn it into a motorway meal.
Build the Harmony Park stay → Birštonas · park the carThe easiest premium base for doing very little logistics: mineral pools, spa, restaurants and Birštonas/Nemunas on the doorstep.
Build the Birštonas stay → Druskininkai · southWeather-proof base in the centre of Druskininkai, with enough spa infrastructure to make a lazy day legitimate and enough Dzūkija around it to make three nights useful.
Build the Druskininkai stay → Palanga · sea + pineTwo different premium answers in the same excellent corner of Palanga: small and personal, or full 5+ star spa — both within walking distance of pine, park and sea.
Choose the Palanga base → Trakai district · pine + lakeDo Trakai properly, then stop driving: a pine-forest resort on Lake Gilušis with a restaurant, trout you can catch for dinner and a Tony G origin story that is more interesting than the average hotel brochure.

One proper regional day plus one intentionally lazy half-day. This is where spa, food and a small town stop competing for time and start supporting each other.
Read the full guide →One local day, one regional loop, one flexible weather/recovery day. You explore more precisely because you are not changing beds every evening.
We keep the restaurant list short on purpose.
Chef Rolandas Čižikas, a current Asian-meets-Scandinavian concept and a resort setting that makes staying over more interesting than driving home after dessert.
Open details →A modern kitchen built around the premise in the name — but with enough character that the joke does not have to carry dinner.
Justin Raugala, fresh produce and a seasonal menu. Treat opening hours as part of the planning: this is a food detour to check before setting off.
Pušų paunksnėje for the intimate European/Spanish-accented route; Restaurant Palanga for a 2026 Michelin Guide-recommended special evening.

Give me your dates, who is travelling, whether the car stays parked, appetite, spa priority and budget. I will choose the base and cut the needless driving first.

This is where “do not drive back” stops being a slogan and becomes route arithmetic.

What I’d skip
Pick a base and stay in it. Five towns in this country are good enough to hold two or three nights on their own, with a bed, a proper dinner and something worth walking to in the morning — which is a far better trip than seven towns seen through a windscreen. If you take one structural idea from this site, take this one.
THE FIVE: Druskininkai · Birštonas · Palanga · Kačerginė · TonyResort · VERDICT: two nights beats two towns
