5–7 MARCH 2027 · VILNIUS · CONFIRMED

Kaziuko mugė: five kilometres of proof
that Lithuania can shop outdoors in March.

Vilnius’ great spring fair is older, messier and more culturally useful than a row of souvenir shops. Come for crafts. Leave with a verba and three things you did not know existed.

THE SHORT ANSWER

If you are deciding whether early March is “too early” for Vilnius, Kaziukas is the argument against staying home. The city is cold, busy, handmade and much more local than a generic European Christmas market.

Why it matters

More than four centuries of people buying things they absolutely did not come for.

Kaziuko mugė grew around St Casimir’s feast day. In 2026 Go Vilnius described a roughly five-kilometre open-air market with more than 1,200 artisans and food producers. The useful souvenirs are the ones with a story: verbos, ceramics, linen, woodwork, amber, straw sodai, food you can smell three stalls before you see it.

BUY

A verba.

Dry flowers, grasses, willow and juniper replace the palms Lithuania’s climate forgot to provide.

EAT

Something unnecessary.

Gingerbread hearts, ring-shaped barankos, smoked food and whatever causes the queue you initially planned to ignore.

WATCH

Actual craft.

The fair is strongest when you stop browsing finished objects and watch somebody carve, forge, weave, turn clay or explain how it is made.

Confirmed next date

Vilnius · 5–7 March 2027.

Go Vilnius has already published the 2027 dates. The fair occupies the centre and Old Town; do not design an itinerary that depends on driving through the middle of it.

March national normal
0.9°C

Spring, by legal fiction.

March can mean sunshine, sleet, wet paving stones and a cold wind making you reconsider your relationship with decorative dried flowers. Layers and waterproof shoes are the correct fashion statement.

Sources & checks

Tradition deserves the same fact-checking as train times.

Trust rule: fixed public-holiday dates and historical customs are desk-verified. Event programmes, opening hours and one-off city schedules can change; where a future programme is not yet published, this guide says so instead of inventing one.

VYTAS’ VERDICT

If you like real craft, Kaziukas is worth changing a March weekend for. If you hate crowds and shopping, come early, watch the makers, buy one good thing and escape before lunch becomes queue management.

The calendar should improve the route, not take it hostage.

Dates and events stay live on the site. The Handbook carries the stable trip shape underneath them, so one cancelled programme does not collapse the holiday.

Trip Build and €99 support both include the complete Handbook at no extra cost.
