Old Town, Laisvės alėja, the modernist New Town and Pažaislis are all "Kaunas" on a booking site. They are not the same daily trip. Choose the part of the city you want to wake up inside, then choose the room.

Four jobs, not a top ten
A hotel earns a place here because it solves a different trip. Being fifth-best at the same job is not a category.
Best for: a couple, friends, Laisvės alėja, dinner and an evening that should not require another taxi.
Why it works: central, social and deliberately informal.
The catch: Moxy's own concept is compact rooms and check-in at the bar. Parking is paid. If you want a traditional four-star lobby-and-room experience, this is the wrong species of hotel.

Why it works: 50 m from Town Hall in a restored historic complex.
The catch: "a room at Daugirdas" is not one product. The old and new buildings differ, seven rooms are in the garret, and the hotel says no two rooms in the old part are the same. Book the room type, not only the hotel name. Driving into Old Town also adds friction.

Why it works: 206 rooms, fitness, sauna, restaurant and a central position.
The catch: reliability is the feature, not local theatre. If the hotel itself must feel unmistakably Kaunas, the smaller historic choices do that job better.

Why it works: a hospitality complex inside the Pažaislis monastery ensemble with a MICHELIN Guide 2026 restaurant.
The catch: this is not a centre hotel with prettier wallpaper. For a first one-night city visit, it puts the wrong Kaunas outside your door. Choose it when Pažaislis is the point.

A breakfast buffet matters less on day twelve than a washing machine, a proper table and somewhere to buy groceries without putting trousers on for reception.

The catch: a discount badge does not make the final total cheap. Check fees and cancellation terms, especially at 28+ nights.
Open official details ↗Kaunas' local accommodation levy is €2 per person per night from 1 January 2025. The municipality lists children under 18 and long-term rental of one month or more among the exemptions.
The practical version: for a 28–31 night stay, ask the host how the exemption is handled before comparing final totals. Do not assume the platform display has interpreted it for you.

Santaka → Town Hall → Vilniaus Street → Laisvės alėja → dinner. Let the city lengthen naturally.
Modernism → Čiurlionis → Laisvės alėja → Žalgiris Arena / evening. The strongest no-car version.
Pažaislis → reservoir → Monte Pacis dinner → city centre next morning. Treat it as a different trip, not a central hotel failure.
