VILNIUS OLD TOWN · ONE COMPLEX · FOUR DIFFERENT JOBS

Stikliai.
First decide what you want from it.

The confusing thing about Stikliai is also the useful thing: it is not one restaurant. It is a hotel, a polished restaurant, a Lithuanian Tavern, a bar and Ponių Laimė around the corner. You can spend a weekend here. You can also spend forty minutes and eat cake. Both are legitimate travel strategies.

THE SHORT VERSION

Four jobs. Pick yours.

Entrance to Stikliai in VilniusSTAYStikliai HotelFor the weekend when the address should be part of the trip.+

Vytas’ take: choose it when you want to wake up inside the Old Town rather than commute into it. This is the expensive option that at least understands why it is expensive: location, atmosphere and an entire little Stikliai ecosystem outside the room.

Fun fact. You can eat, drink, sleep and buy cake without really leaving the Stikliai orbit. Efficient? Yes. Slightly dangerous for the wallet? Also yes.

Stikliai restaurant interior in VilniusSERIOUS DINNERStikliai RestaurantFor the evening when dinner is allowed to wear a jacket.+

The formal restaurant is the polished side of the family: European and French-leaning cooking, a glass-roofed garden setting and produce that Stikliai says comes in large part from its own 2.5-hectare farm in Dubingiai.

Use it for: an occasion, a romantic dinner, or when you want the room to do some of the work before the first plate arrives.

Cepelinai at Stikliai TavernLITHUANIAN FOODStikliai TavernCome for the cellar. Stay for the cepelinai.+

This is the one I would explain first to somebody asking for Lithuanian food that still feels like part of a proper Vilnius evening. The Tavern sits in restored seventeenth-century spaces; the official description leans into national heritage and interwar dishes.

Vytas’ take: there are cheaper cepelinai. There are also cheaper shoes. Neither fact tells you where you want to spend Saturday night.

Fun fact. The downstairs cellar is used for folk performances. Lithuania occasionally manages to put history, potatoes and entertainment in the same basement.

Ponių Laimė bakery and cafe in Vilnius Old TownCOFFEE · CAKE · QUICK STOPPonių LaimėThe sensible answer when you want Stikliai without turning lunch into diplomacy.+

A few steps from the hotel, this is the low-commitment version: coffee, croissants, pastries, cake and daytime food. The name nods to Émile Zola’s Au Bonheur des Dames; the bakery says fruit and berries for its desserts come from the Stikliai farm.

Vytas’ take: useful precisely because you do not need an occasion. Walk the quarter, order cake, continue with your life.

Stiklių and Gaono streets in Vilnius Old Town
Do not reduce this to a restaurant pin. Walk the quarter.
WHY IT WORKS

The street is part of the booking.

Stikliai works because the decision is bigger than a plate. You are in the dense old centre around Gaono and Stiklių streets; the hotel and its food venues give you reasons to stay in that small radius instead of treating dinner as an isolated reservation.

The clever itinerary is therefore embarrassingly simple: walk first, choose the version of Stikliai that fits your appetite and budget, then stop optimising. Travel improves dramatically once the spreadsheet has been defeated.
